CHILLICOTHE — My kingdom for a clutch hit.
The Chesapeake Lady Panthers and Leesburg Fairfield each had five hits, but the Lady Lions was able to bunch their hits and get a 3-0 win on Sunday in the Division III district title game.
Leesburg’s Kaiti White struck out 13 and walked one in getting the win. Chesapeake’s Erika Bowman fanned five, walked three and allowed two earned runs.
“Their pitcher did a good job moving the ball around. We just didn’t handle it very well,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.
“We had some chances with runners on base, we just didn’t get the two-out hit.”
Chesapeake (15-10) had five different batters go 1-for-3: Katy Spears, Ryleigh Swann, Jordan Storms, Rachel Pratt and Bowman.
The Lady Lions broke the scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the third.
Madison Fox walked and Lyndee Spargur doubled to put runners at second and third. White followed with a two-run single.
Fairfield added a run in the fifth when Spargur singled, Carli Reiber walked and White singled for her third RBI.
