Two relay teams run to finals

LANCASTER — A few track athletes will get a second chance.
The first day of qualifying at the Division III regional track meet saw a girls’ and a boys’ relay team advance to Friday’s finals at Logan Elm High School.
The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers quartet of Loralei Griffiths, Erica Collins, Lilly Zornes and Kyleigh Pauley were seventh at 52.88 seconds and qualified for the finals.
The Coal Grove Hornets’ 4×100-meter relay team of Kyle Sites, Joey Workman Justin Hicks and Nate Harmon were eighth at 45.52 seconds and qualified for the finals.
Also in the girls’ meet, Rock Hill’s Maddie Scott was 13th with a toss of 32-3.75. Coal Grove’s Sarah Cecil was 11th in the 300-meter hurdles at 49.69.
The Lady Hornets’ Emily Compliment, Kaylee Harris, Jaida Smith and Cecil were 13th in the 4×400 relay with a 4:24.56 time.
In the boys’ meet, Coal Grove Hornets’ Kimo Baldwin was sixth in the discus with a toss of 138-3.
Workman also qualified in the 300 hurdles with a 41.27 time to place fifth.
In the 4×200 relay, Sites, Workman, Aaron Music and Harmon were 11th overall with a 1:36.69 time.
Evan Holmes, Nathaniel Brumett, Music and Sites ran a 3:44.54 and finished 12th in the 4×400 relay.
The top four finishers in the finals advance to the state meet.
