HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall men’s basketball team will get a head start on the 2018-19 season when it goes on an eight-day trip to the Bahamas, head coach Dan D’Antoni announced.
The Thundering Herd will depart on Aug. 10 and return Aug. 17, and will stay in Nassau before returning home to Huntington.
It is a much anticipated trip, as the 2018-19 Herd squad will be on display for the first time. In addition to returning four starters and three letterwinners from last year’s Conference USA championship team that reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 31 years, MU will return 77 percent of its scoring, 87 percent of 3-pointers and 82 percent of its assist totals from a year ago.
Furthermore, six newcomers will be on full display for the first time in a Marshall uniform, including 6-10 center Iran Bennett, who sat out last season.
Per NCAA rules regarding a foreign tour, Marshall will hold 10 days of practices prior to departing Huntington.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to take our team to the Bahamas in August, said D’Antoni.
“This is good chance for the kids to bond a bit and allows them to get exposed to a new culture and country, while preparing us for a new season. New players and returning players will have a chance to practice together and it will help us with recruiting.”
Marshall will arrive in Nassau and is scheduled to play three games in the following days at Sir Kendall Isaacs Gym against opponents to be determined.
After wrapping up its competition on the court, the team will head to the Melia Nassau Beach Resort where they can experience the local culture and other team activities.
