John Harper

Sept. 21, 1949 — June 1, 2018

John D. “Danny” Harper, 68, of Ironton, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 21, 1949, a son of the late John S. Harper and Betty Fleming Harper. He was preceded in death on May 24, 2018, by his wife, Phyllis Ann Morgan Harper, who he married March 5, 1976.
John was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and a United States Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He retired in 2016 after 32 years of service with the Alpha Welding Company, and was a member of the Ironton Moose Lodge and VFW Post #8850.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Harper.
He is survived by his sister, Cheryl (O.C.) Leith, of Ironton; daughter, Joyce (Brian) Caskey, of Ironton; two sons, Bobby (Melanie) Long and Steven (Sarah) Harper, both of Ironton; six grandchildren, Michael (Kristen) Long, of Kitts Hill, Chris Long, of Ironton, Brandon (Sarah) Long, of Ironton; Brittany Russell, of Coal Grove, Austin Caskey, of Ironton, and Katelyn Caskey, of Ironton; and two great-grandsons, Carson and Grayson.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Eric Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military honor provided by VFW Post #8850. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

George Sisler

Jan. 26, 1938 — June 2, 2018

George Edward Sisler, 80, of Ironton, died Saturday, June 2, 2018, at home. He was born Jan. 26, 1938, in Ironton, the son of the late George W. and Leba Lewis Sisler.
He was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic church, a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Armco Steel.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Pat Moore Sisler; four children, Denise (Charles) Hossler, John (Lori) Sisler, Susan (Cliff) Cline and Stephen Sisler; grandchildren, Travis Hossler, Robin Hossler, Whitney Blackburn, Mariah Blackburn, Stephen Sisler, Bentley Sisler, Carson Sisler, Michael Sisler, Caleb Koster, Hailee Koster, Jaron Koster and Cannon Koster; great-grandchildren, Harrison Hossler, Jackson Hossler, Marley Blackburn, Harleigh Roach, Piper Sisler and Maverick Crabtree; two sisters, Charlotte Pruitt and Jean Webb; and one brother, Walter Sisler.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Duvendeck; and five brothers, Earl Sisler, Fred Sisler, Donald Sisler, Paul Sisler and Gaylord Sisler.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Ironton, and funeral mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. David Huffman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
