Forever homes needed

On Saturday, members of the Lawrence County Humane Society gathered at Paul Porter park in Coal Grove for their Paws in the Park event.

The event, which featured a vendor fair, served as a fundraiser for the group, which operates solely on donations.

More importantly, it provided an opportunity for pet adoption.

The group had several cats and kittens there, ready to take home for a $25 adoption fee.

Space in the Lawrence County Dog Shelter’s cat room is limited and the dog warden does not pick up stray cats. Cats may be dropped off for a fee.

Saturday’s event helped to provide homes to animals in need, which are currently being fostered by members of the Humane Society. The group is currently caring for about 45 cats.

We thank the vendors who took part in the fair, as well as the companies, including by the Barker Shop, Sensaboyd Events, Shampoochies Pet Grooming and Jolly Pets, that sponsored it.

And we encourage anyone interested in adopting one of the fostered cats to reach out to the Humane Society through their Facebook page.

Not only will it give you a friendly companion, but it will help free up space for the group to help other animals in need.
