COAL GROVE — Sunday marked the first day of Family Fun Days at Paul PorterPark, bringing with it food, music and activities for children.
Vicki McDaniel, president of the Coal Grove Betterment Club, who organizes the event, said a line-up of local musical talent was scheduled to perform for all three nights of the event through its conclusion tonight.
“We have different groups every two hours,” she said.
The crowd on the first night was slightly modest, given the thunderstorms hitting the region, but McDaniel said it’s typical of the first night.
“It builds as we go,” she said, adding that the peak attendance would come tonight, when the park hosts fireworks at 10 p.m.
In addition to the entertainment, the event also has two auctions, one for gift baskets and one for cakes and pies, with all funds going to the Betterment Club for activities in the community.
“It pays for the Christmas lights at the park each year,” McDaniel said.
Activities begin each night at 5 p.m. and run until 10 p.m.
Schedule for today’s events:
• 5-5:30 p.m. – Emily Matney
• 5:30-6 p.m. – Tyler Waller
• 6 p.m. – Cake and pie auction
• 6:30-8 p.m. – Tyler Waller
