CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds’ Big 3 on offense is the Big 3 going to the All-Star Game.
Second baseman Scooter Gennett, third baseman Eugenio Suarez and first baseman Joey Votto were all selected to play for the National League in the All-Star Game set for Tuesday, July 17, Washington, D.C.
The All-Star selections are the first for Gennett and Suarez while Votto will be making his sixth appearance.
Gennett leads the NL in batting with a .326 average, tied with outfielder Albert Almora of the Chicago Cubs.
Gennett has also hit 14 home runs and driving in 58 runs along with 20 doubles and 54 runs batted in.
Despite his numbers, Gennett will be a backup to starter Javier Baez of the Cubs.
Suarez is having the best year of his brief MLB career.
The slick-fielding third baseman is hitting .315 with 19 home runs and leads the league with 68 RBIs.
Votto’s average has slipped below .300 to .292, but he leads the NL in on-base percentage at .425. He had eight home runs and 44 runs batted in to go with 68 walks — second most in the league.
Votto has 18 doubles, 50 runs scored and is among the league’s top players with 93 hits.
Gennett was a Major League Baseball choice while Suarez and Votto were selected by the players.
Votto was the runner-up to Giancarlo Stanton for the NL Most Valuable Player award last season as he finished just two points behind in the voting.
