Robert Smith

Robert Raymond Smith, 83, of Ironton, died Friday, July 6, 2018. He was born Sept. 5, 1934, a son of the late Charles R. Smith and Mary Katherine Scherer Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marta Justice Smith.
Robert was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School and a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was employed for 43 years at Meehan Steel, Huntington Steel and OSCO, of Portsmouth, until his retirement. He enjoyed building RC airplanes and fishing, and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheila R. Pennisten, and husband, Ed, of South Point; son, Chris R. Smith, and wife, Tracy, of South Point; grandchildren, Kasey Latta (Robbie), Kelly Barnett, Lexi Whitt (Alex), and Drew Smith; step-grandchildren, Don and Michael Pennisten; one great-grandson, Declan Latta; and a brother, Thomas G. Smith, of Ironton.
A mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Ironton. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, is assisting the family with arrangements.
