Robert Smith

Sept. 5, 1934 — July 6, 2018

Robert Raymond Smith, 83, of Ironton, died Friday, July 6, 2018. He was born Sept. 5, 1934, a son of the late Charles R. Smith and Mary Katherine Scherer Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marta Justice Smith.
Robert was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School and a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was employed for 43 years at Meehan Steel, Huntington Steel and OSCO, of Portsmouth, until his retirement. He enjoyed building RC airplanes and fishing, and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheila R. Pennisten, and husband, Ed, of South Point; son, Chris R. Smith, and wife, Tracy, of South Point; grandchildren, Kasey Latta (Robbie), Kelly Barnett, Lexi Whitt (Alex), and Drew Smith; step-grandchildren, Don and Michael Pennisten; one great-grandson, Declan Latta; and a brother, Thomas G. Smith, of Ironton.
A mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Ironton. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. today at the church. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, is assisting the family with arrangements. Carl Carpenter

April 3, 1931 — July 8, 2018

Carl L. Carpenter, 87, of Rock Camp, went to be with our Lord and Savior Sunday, July 8, 2018, surrounded by loved ones. He was born April 3, 1931, to the late John and Nannie Bush Carpenter.
Carl retired from CSX railroad and was the real estate broker for C.L. Carpenter Realty. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Barbara J. Carpenter; three brothers, Ercle, John Jr. and Elmer Carpenter; and one sister, Jane Adkins.
He leaves behind three daughters, Sandra Kay (Harry) Rowe, of Milton, West Virginia, Debbie Pemberton, of Ashland, Kentucky, and Linda Carpenter, of Deering; two sons, Randy (Annette) Carpenter and Tim (Darla) Carpenter, both of Rock Camp; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Carpenter, of Wurtland, Kentucky; one sister, Lucy Harlow, of Destin, Florida; special friend, Anna Lou Robinson; and special cousin, Elmer Bush.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home, Ironton, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Trent Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens. Symmes Valley Veterans Honor Guard will be performing military graveside rites.

 

Harold Carrico

Nov. 24, 1932 — July 8, 2018

Harold E. Carrico, 85, of Coal Grove, passed from his earthly home to live in his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 8, 2018. The Lawrence County native was born on Nov. 24, 1932, to the late William A. and Mary Etta Goins Carrico.
Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Edna M Kelly Carrico.
Harold was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School, a United States Army veteran, a retired employee of the Dow Chemical Company, and served on the Dawson-Bryant Board of Education. Harold was a member of and served as Deacon and in the Bus Ministry of Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by three children and one son-in-law, Debra K. Massie, of Coal Grove, Harold Dean Carrico, of Coal Grove, and Dreama and KJ Hamid, of Gallipolis. He is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Shanda DeAn Cremeens with Chanee and Paislee, Sheena DaNae Massie with Khylee, Kenadee, and Karder, Dares Rayan Hamid, Taae Davan Hamid, and Dani Laith Hamid.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by seven brothers, Orville, Clyde, Paul Vernon, Donald, Joe, Earl and Ray; and five sisters, Lilly Shoemaker, Helen Ferguson, Geneva Sparling, Edna Clay and Virgie Waller Derifield.
