Ironton Little League beats Mt. Vernon 4-2 in state tournament

NORTH CANTON — Now that’s how you like to start the state tournament.
The Ironton Little League 11-12-year-old All-Stars opened up the state tournament on Sunday with a 4-2 win over Mount Vernon.
Braden Schreck and Jon Wylie combined on pitching effort. Schreck went 3.1 innings for the win as he gave up six hits, two runs — both unearned — struck out five and walked two.
Wiley notched the save with 2.2 innings of work as he struck out three and walked one.
Schreck threw 65 pitches with 45 for strikes and Wylie had 21 strikes among his 33 pitches.
Ironton had five hits with Brady Moatz going 2-for-2 with a double and two runs batted in. Brady Medinger was 1-2 with a double and RBI, Drew Brown 1-2 with a double and RBI, and Wylie had a double in three at-bats.
Connor Kleinman, Medinger, Wylie and Schreck all scored runs. Schreck, Moatz and Kleinman all had walks.
Ironton will now play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
