James Hern

James Gregory “Greg” Hern, 55, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nella Rose Hern; father, James Franklin Hern; grandparents, Floyd Vallance Sr. and Ruthie Eloise Savary Barber, and William Henry Hern and Lucy Howard Hern.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Hern; sons, Matthew Hern, of Grayson, Kentucky, Derek (Ashleigh McHenry) Hern, of Wheelersburg, and Shawn Gregory Hern, of Ironton; daughters, Shanna (Zach) Adkins, of Pedro, and Sierra Desiree Hern, of Ironton; four sisters, Lyla (Bobby) Campbell, of Land O’Lakes, Florida, Rhonda (Robert) Taylor, of Mount Airy, North Carolina, Tammy (Randy) Hall, of Hudson, Florida, and Shara (John) Rubo, of King, North Carolina; brother, Brian David Hern, of Ironton; two granddaughters, whom he adored, Serenity Hern and Myleigh Hern; and two grandsons, Zachary Adkins II and Tyson McHenry.
Greg was an amazing man, husband and father who loved his family. Greg always had a special place in his heart for children. He loved riding motorcycles, was a master carpenter and loved disco music. He attended Ironton Schools, and will be deeply missed by many.
A memorial service will be 4-5 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Ironton Community of Christ Church, Ironton. In lieu of flowers, for his love of children, make contributions to The Ronald McDonald House, 1500 17th St., Huntington, WV 25701. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements.

Theresa Hawthorne

Theresa Ann Hawthorne, 55, of South Point, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at home.
She was born Aug. 15, 1962 in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Leonard and Glenda Weese Wright.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sherry Ellen Lesler, and a nephew, U.S. Army Specialist Brian Albert Wright.
Theresa is survived by her husband, Wesley Allen Hawthorne, of South Point; two sons, Eric Hawthorne and wife, Kelly and Thomas Hawthorne and wife, Angela, of South Point; two grandchildren, Annabelle and Logan, of South Point; her brother, Allan Wright and wife, Shirley, of Keensburg, Illinois; nieces, Rochelle Baggett and husband, Sam, Laura Cheri Nance, Nancy Eldridge, Caitlin Facemyer and husband, Troy, and Levi McCormick; nephews, Joshua David Lesler, David Wright and wife, Emily, Matthew David Hawthorne, Austin Tyler-Ray Hawthorne, Xavier Reed Hawthorne, Joey Eldridge and wife, Jaimee,; great nieces, Lexis Eldridge and Hailey Eldridge; great nephews, Parker Smithers, Isaiah Eldridge, Garrett Eldridge, and Wolf Howell; two sisters-in-law, Shara Roach and husband, Paul of Ironton and Laura Molter and husband, Matt, of Coal Grove; and a brother-in-law, Tim Hawthorne, of South Point.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Jerry Greenslait officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Roger Allen

April 4, 1941 — July 19, 2018

Roger Thomas Allen, 77, of Ashland, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Linda E. White Hospice Center in Evansville, Indiana.
The Lawrence County native was born April 4, 1941, a son of the late Clifford and Mabel Dillon Allen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Riffe Allen, who passed away Aug. 14, 2014.
Roger was a graduate of Dawson Bryant High School and a former supervisor for Dow Chemical, retiring in 1995 after more than 25 years of service with them. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a deacon at the Calvary Baptist Church in Ashland.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Sgt. Justin B. Allen.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (Paul) Dickerson, of Galatia, Illinois; a son, Brian Allen, of Louisville, Kentucky; a sister, Barbara Kay Pratt, of Manchester, Tennessee; a brother: Jon Allen, of Coal Grove; four grandchildren, Jessica Burke, Bradley Allen, Nathan Dickerson, and Trenton Allen; nine great grandchildren, Joshua Burke, Caleb Burke, Christopher Burke III, Felicity Burke and Baby Girl Burke, due Nov 15, Rowyn Allen, Isla Allen, Archer Allen and Lydia Allen.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. 6th St., Ironton, with his son-in-law, Paul Dickerson, and Mike Wilder officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, make donations to the Sgt. Justin B. Allen Memorial Scholarship Fund, 110 S. 4th St., Ironton.
