Willard Peterson

June 2, 1929 — July 20, 2018

Willard W. “Bill” Peterson, 89, of Ironton, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018, at Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. The Lawrence County native was born June 2, 1929, the son of the late Jesse and Millie Carpenter Peterson. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Elizabeth Chatfield Peterson, whom he married on April 13, 1957.
Bill was a graduate of Pedro High School and a former maintenance worker for Dayton Malleable, where he retired from in 1984 after 36 years of service. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving in the USS Benner DDR and the USS Macan CA 132. He attended Lawrence Furnace Church in Pedro, and was a member of the Lawrence Furnace Auxiliary.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Gray; a grandson, Lucas Steed; two sisters, Mary and Edith Peterson; three brothers, Ernest, Hershel and Charles Peterson; and a sister-in-law, Viola Peterson.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Rod Steed, of Ironton; a granddaughter, Callie Gray, of Lexington, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews, who he loved like his own.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Ryan Massie officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
