Barbara Smith

June 10, 1938 — July 25, 2018

Miss Barbara Smith, 80, of Ironton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 25, 2018. She was the youngest daughter of the late Archie and Cora Smith, of Ironton.
She was born June 10, 1938. She graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1956, and received a degree in elementary education from Ohio University. She taught the second grade for 30 years at Rock Hill #4.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union in Raceland, Kentucky. She was a faithful viewer of City Mission Church on TV each Sunday morning.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Smith; and six sisters, Mary Smith, Clara Smith, Nettie Bell, Margaret Skaggs, Ginny Hill and Ruth Sharp.
She is survived by one sister, Freda Fliehman, of Willow Wood. She s also survived by very special nieces, nephews and her many former second grade students at Rock Hill #4, which she called “her little angels.”
A graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. today at the Woodland Cemetery in Ironton, officiated by Dr. Tommy Melvin. Visitation services will be 10 a.m.-noon today at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Kentucky.

 

Brent Aldridge

July 19, 1967 — July 25, 2018

Brent Lee Aldridge, 51, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. The Ironton native was born July 19, 1967, a son of Sheila (Jim) McKinney Trout, of Ironton, and Monte Aldridge, of Ironton.
Brent was a graduate of Ironton High School and received his Associate’s Degree from Ohio University. He was a former phlebotomist with King’s Daughters Medical Center. Brent was an avid musician and artist, and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his fiancé, Tina Perry, of Branchland, West Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Sara Aldridge, of Ironton; half-sister, Jennifer Aldridge, of Deering; half-brother, Tyler Aldridge, of Deering; two step-brothers, Kevin (Nancy) Trout, of Lancaster, and Brian (Ericka) Trout, of Chicago, Illinois; a step-sister, Kimberly Grubb, of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to celebrate Brent’s life will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, and visitation will be noon until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Betty Lou Swinford

May 25, 1935 — July 25, 2018

Betty Lou Swinford, 83, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at a local health care facility. The Lawrence County native was born May 25, 1935, a daughter of the late Jarrett and Nellie Johnson Massie. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Swinford.
Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Haverhill Cemetery, and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
