Helping in their mission

Comprised of 22 non-profit medical facilities across North America, Shriners Hospitals for Children have been providing care to families since their founding in 1922.

The hospitals specialize in orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate, and children are treated, regardless of their ability to pay.

Nearest to us are the Lexington, Kentucky and Cincinnati hospitals, and transportation to children to those facilities is provided by the El Hasa Shriners in Ashland.

This weekend, a fundraiser will take place to raise money for the hospitals and the transportation fund for Shriners to take families to the hospitals.

Members of the El Hasa Shriner Temple’s Hillbilly Clan 1 Outhouse 8, of Ironton, will host Hillbilly Day at Pick’n Save from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

The hillbillies will have their signature trucks, a familiar sight at local parades, on hand and will be selling hot dogs and chips, as well as raffle tickets for a pair of season tickets for OSU football.

All funds raised from the event will go the hospitals and the transportation efforts, which are led by drivers from the Shriners.

This group does great work in our community, volunteering countless hours and energy, and always provide a fun time for families with their events.

We encourage everyone who can to drop by on Saturday and lend their support to a good cause.
