Crews will be installing power lines on Sunday

RUSSELL — Travelers using U.S. Route 23 on Sunday morning should watch for temporary traffic stoppages at Russell, Kentucky as utility crews install new power lines across the highway.

On Sunday, between 9 a.m. and noon, crews with Kentucky Power contractor Davis H. Elliot will stop all U.S. 23 traffic at the Kentucky 750 intersection in Russell, Kentucky. All lanes of traffic will be stopped up to four times during those three hours.

The location is about 1/2 mile west of the Oakley C. Collins Memorial Bridge.

Contractors will work to limit each traffic stoppage to about 15 minutes or less. However, lengthy traffic backups on U.S. 23 are likely. Also, expect backups on the Ironton-Russell bridge, on Kentucky 750, and on the Kentucky 244 viaduct from downtown Russell. Motorists should be prepared to wait, or should seek alternate routes during the scheduled construction time.

In case of rain, the power line installation and traffic stoppages will be rescheduled for Sunday, Aug. 26.

The power line installation is part of the utility relocation work being done for theTransportation Cabinet’s upcoming Kentucky 244 Russell viaduct replacement project.

Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
