COAL GROVE — Young teams always get better the more they play. The Coal Grove Lady Hornets’ volleyball game on Thursday was a microcosm of what to expect for the season.
The young Lady Hornets began their home opener nervous and jittery and it was reflected in the scores. They played better by the end of the game but it wasn’t good enough as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers ran off a straight sets Ohio Valley Conference victory.
Coal Grove lost 25-19, 25-13 and then 25-23.
Hailey Booth had 12 points while Jaidyn Griffith and Mattie Malone scored 10 each for Coal Grove.
Taylor Reynolds and Malone had five kills each for the game.
