McDERMOTT — The temperatures were hot, but the Rock Hill Redmen were running cold.
However, once the Redmen got warmed up they kept on running as they blanked the Northwest Mohawks 33-0 on Friday.
Rock Hill recovered a fumble at the Northwest 23 on the game’s first play and got to the 9-yard line only to have a holding penalty negate a touchdown run by T.J. McGinnis and the drive ended with a 36-yard missed field goal.
Northwest elected to go for a first down at its own 40 and lost 7 yards.
Rock Hill then went 33 yards in nine plays capped by Zak Adkins’ 4-yard run. Brady Floyd’s conversion kick made it 7-0 with 8:47 left in the half.
The Redmen went 63 yards in eight plays on their next possession and scored on a 7-yard run by Adkins.
The key play was a 28-yard scamper by quarterback Brayden Friend.
Rock Hill (1-1) came out in the third quarter and got a 41-yard touchdown by Hankins three plays into the half.
After an interception, it took the Redmen just four plays to capitalize as Hankins ran 8 yards for a touchdown and a 26-0 lead.
The final Rock Hill touchdown came on a 36-yard run by T.J. McGinnis with just 45 seconds left in the quarter. Floyd kicked the conversion for a 33-0 lead.
Rock Hill ran for 254 yards. The only pass completion was for minus-3 yards.
McGinnis carried 16 times for 116 yards and Hankins had 78 yards on just eight attempts with two touchdowns.
The Rock Hill defense limited the Mohawks (0-2) to a mere 53 yards on the ground and 72 passing for just 125 total yards.
