CROSS LANES, W.Va. — The temperatures and heat index were hot, but not as hot as the St. Joseph Lady Flyers.
The Lady Flyers overcame a heat index of 103 degrees and put together a dominating overall effort to blank the Cross Lanes Christian Lady Warriors 6-0 on Tuesday in a soccer game.
“It was a total team effort by the girls,” said Lady Flyers’ coach Dan Blair.
St. Joseph left little doubt in the outcome by scoring five goals in the first half.
Laiken Unger and Emma Whaley scored two goals in and Bella Whaley had the other goal in the first half onslaught. Faith Mahlmeister finished off the scoring with a second half goal.
Kaitlyn Sheridan and Unger each had an assist.
The Lady Flyers had 22 shots on goal to only five for the Lady Warriors. Goalkeeper Kelsey Malone registered four saves.
