Flyers, Panthers tie in defensive battle

CHESAPEAKE — Give it up for the defense.
The St. Joseph Flyers and Chesapeake Panthers both displayed solid defense as the teams tied 1-1 in a soccer game on Wednesday.
The Flyers’ only goal came at the 26:25 mark of the first half when Isaac Whaley scored off an assist from Jackson Rowe.
The Panthers Josh Ramey got the team’s only goal on a breakaway shot at the 17:56 mark of the first half.
Flyers’ goalkeeper Jimmy Mahlmeister had nine saves while the Panthers’ Elijah Snyder had four saves.
St. Joseph (3-1-1) had 14 shots with five on goal, 12 fouls, four offside penalties and two corner kicks. Chesapeake had 17 shots with 10 on goal, three corner kicks and seven fouls.
The Flyers host Fairland on Thursday.
