ATHENS — The Ohio Bobcats’ football game Saturday against Virginia has been relocated to Vanderbilt Stadium on the campus of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., as announced by the Virginia athletics department Wednesday.
The contest was originally scheduled to played at Virginia’s Scott Stadium in Charlottesvile, Va.
The venue change was made due to the threat of severe weather in the Charlottesville area associated with Hurricane Florence and to provide emergency personnel with the ability to focus on the needs of the region’s citizens throughout the weekend.
Kickoff for the game will be at 4:30 p.m. EST (3:30 p.m. CST in Nashville). Admission to the game at Vanderbilt Stadium will be free.
Vanderbilt University has a clear bag policy which will be in effect for the game.
Anyone who purchased tickets through the Ohio Athletics Ticket Office will receive a refund. Call (740) 593-1300 or 1-800-575-CATS (2287) with any questions.
Television broadcast plans for the game are still being developed by the Atlantic Coast Conference and ESPN. The radio broadcast of the game can still be heard on the Ohio IMG Sports Network.
“Our hearts go out to the people in east coast areas that may be impacted by the storm,” said Ohio Director of Athletics Jim Schaus.
“We are very understanding of the changes that needed to be made for our game. The staff at Virginia has been outstanding to work with during this short notice transition. It will be nice the game will be played in excellent weather. Calling all Bobcats to head to Nashville for the game, if you can make it.”
The Bobcats (1-0) will be meeting the Cavaliers (1-1) for just the second time and first since Oct. 2, 1993.
Ohio, which is coming off of a bye week, opened the season with a 38-32 victory over Howard on Sept. 1 at Peden Stadium.
