Mary Elizabeth (Sis) Smith, 97, of Coal Grove, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at Community Hospice of Ashland, Kentucky. She was born Sept. 13, 1921, to the late Lawrence and Mary Schmeisser Compliment. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus Smith, after 36 years of marriage.
She was a member of the Ironton Music Club. She was the St. Joseph Church secretary for more than 50 years, retiring at the age of 95.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence Compliment, Joe Compliment and Paul Compliment; and sisters, Evelyne Bellamy, Veronica (Tiny) Runyan and Alice Johnson.
She is survived by a brother, John J. (Meat) and Pat Compliment; and sisters, Rose E. Swarts and Barbara (Bobbi) and Larry K. Shelton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be noon Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ironton with Father David Huffman officiating. Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. and visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass Saturday at the church.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Joseph building fund and Ashland Community Hospice.
