Howard Suttles

June 6, 1935 — Sept. 14, 2018

Howard Suttles, 83, of Coal Grove, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at a local health care facility. The Kitts Hill native was born June 6, 1935, a son of the late John and Ada Wilson Suttles.
Mr. Suttles attended Kitts Hill schools and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a former employee for O.D.O.T. in maintenance, and a member of A.B.A.T.E. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and turkey hunting, and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Suttles and John “Bootie” Suttles; and a sister, Princie Gillenwalters.
He is survived by a daughter, Melissa Frye, of Ironton; three sons, Howard Jesse (Jennifer) Suttles, of Coal Grove, Jerimy (Melinda) Clonch, of Jackson, and Howard Shannon Elswick, of Ironton; three nieces, Kim Easterling, of Ironton, Pamela Diaz, of Longmont, Colorado, Peggy Suttles, of Daly City and Linda Suttles, of Daly City, California; a nephew, Randy Suttles, of California; and 11 grandchildren, Hannah Suttles, Shanna Elswick, Levi Elswick, Bradlee Suttles, Krayton Suttles, Candence Suttles, Christa Frye, Bane Suttles, Maggie Saunders, Garrett Saunders and Blake Saunders.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Lenny Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Ross Cemetery, and visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
