Mahlmeister ‘saves’ Flyers’ win over Chesy

Maybe Jimmy Mahlmeister should think about being a lifeguard.
St. Joseph’s goalkeeper had 13 saves as the Flyers beat the Chesapeake Panthers 3-1 in a soccer game on last Thursday.
The game was tied 1-1 at the half after Braden Gilpin put the Panthers up 1-0 at the 20:19 mark before the Flyers’ J.C. Damron tied the game with an assist from Ryan Payne with 1:52 on the clock.
In the second half, the defense shut down the Panthers’ offense while Zach Roach gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead with an unassisted goal with 28:09 on the clock.
Jared Johnson then scored with an assist from Roach at the 19:56 mark and St. Joseph was up 3-1.
St. Joseph had 26 shots with 14 on goal. The Flyers had three offside penalties, 10 fouls and nine corner kicks.
Chesapeake had 20 shots with 14 on goal, two fouls and two corner kicks. Panthers’ goalie Elijah Snider had 10 saves.
On Tuesday, the Flyers visited Portsmouth Clay and suffered a 4-0 loss.
Bryce Toomire made two penalty kicks within 20 seconds as Clay took a 2-0 first half lead.
The Flyers were unable to recover and Toomire and Clay Cottle both had second half goals for the Panthers.
St. Joseph had 13 shots but only four on goal along with 12 fouls, two offside penalties and one corner kick. Clay had 33 shots with 24 on goal, 12 fouls, one offside penalty and two corner kicks.
Mahlmeister turned away 16 shots and Dmitri Ward added four saves. Dakota Dodds had four saves for Clay.
