Donna Gayle Gettys, 80, of Coal Grove, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at a local health care facility with her loved ones by her side. The Lawrence County native was born Jan. 16, 1938, a daughter of the late Raymond L. and Irene E. Blair Gettys.
Donna was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and a member of Christ Temple Church in Huntington, West Virginia. Donna and her brother, Jimmy, owned a club called “The Blue Mist” in Sheridan and Dick’s Record Shop in Ashland, Kentucky. She was employed by Olan Mills Studios in New Jersey and was a volunteer at Ironton General Hospital. She was an active member of the church for many years.
Donna loved the Lord and witnessed to everyone. She was funny and always had a smile on her face. Family meant the world to her. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Gettys.
She is survived by a daughter, Cindy Jo Staton, of Ironton; two sons, Charles “Shane” (Hazel) Martin, of Ashland, Kentucky, and Shawn D. (Lynn) Martin, of South Point; two brothers, James L. Gettys, of Ironton, and Charles (Brenda) Gettys, of Coal Grove; two sisters, Barbara Sites, of Ironton, and Jo Ann (Bob) Kratzenburg, of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Jeff Canfield officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
