Flyers win, tie in busy two days

It was a busy two days for the St. Joseph Flyers, and it was a productive two days as well.
The Flyers played soccer games on back-to-back days and came away with a 2-2 tie against the Fairland Dragons before beat the New Boston Tigers 4-2 on Tuesday.
St. Joseph (10-2-2) started slow but put together a strong second half to beat the New Boston Tigers.
The Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Matthew Sheridan and an assist by J.C. Darmon at the 1:17 mark.
Zach Roach scored with 36:09 on the clock with an assist from Isaac Whaley as the Flyers went up 2-0 early in the second half.
Blake Grant’s goal for New Boston cut the Flyers’ lead to 2-1, but Whaley’s unassisted goal at the 25:50 mark put the lead at 3-1.
Jackson Rowe then scored for the Flyers with Sheridan getting the assist and it was 4-1 with only 1:33 left.
New Boston got its final goal on a penalty kick by Larkin Branham.
Goalkeeper Jimmy Mahlmeister turned away shot after shot as he racked up 16 saves. Kyle Mays had 12 saves for New Boston.
The Flyers had 31 shots with 16 on goal. They had 10 fouls, two offside penalties and two corner kicks.
New Boston had 24 shots with 17 on goal with six fouls and two corner kicks.
The Flyers hosted the Dragons on Monday as the teams tied.
St. Joseph scored both its goals in the first half with Jackson Rowe having a hand in each goal.
Isaac Whaley scored at the 25:01 mark with an assist from Rowe.
With 12:19 on the clock, Rowe scored with Michael Mahlmeister getting the assist.
Fairland’s Mason Fannin scored at the 36:01 and 21:05 marks of the second half to tie the game.
St. Joseph had 24 shots with 16 on goal, four fouls and four corner kicks.
Fairland had 12 shots with nine on goal and four corner kicks.
As for the goalkeepers, Jimmy Mahlmeister had six saves Dmitri Ward one for the Flyers while Jacob Polcyn had 14 for the Dragons.
The Flyers visit Northwest on Thursday.
