Lady Dragons’ Shrout 8th at girls’ D2 state golf tourney; Thomas 32nd

COLUMBUS — Just like the theme song of the old TV sitcom “The Jeffersons,” Hanna Shrout is movin’ on up.
After finishing 23rd in the girls’ Division II state golf tournament, the Fairland Dragons’ junior golfer finished in a three-way tie for eighth place this past weekend at the Ohio State University Gray Course.
Shrout — who was medalist in the sectional and district tournaments — shot rounds of 77 and 78 for a 15-over 155 total on the Par 70, 5,560-yard course.
She finished tied with Jelena Lainovic of Andrews Osborne Academy and Sydney Leyerle of Gibsonburg.
There were 71 girls total who qualified for the girls’ state tournament.
Fairland sophomore golfers Clayton Thomas was tied for No. 32 in the boys’ Division II state tournament held this past Friday and Saturday.
In his first trip to the state tournament, Thomas shot a 28-over par 172 on rounds of 88 and 84 over the Par 72 6,546-yard OSU Scarlet Course.
There were 72 total golfers who qualified for the boys’ state tournament.
In team completion, Lima Central Catholic won the girls D2 championship with a 652 total. Shelby was second at 674 followed by Sugarcreek Garaway at 681. The Gallipolis girls’ team was 12th with a 797 score.
In the boys’ tournament, Columbus Academy had a 625 total to win the tournament. Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin was runner-up at 634 and Kettering Archbishop Alter third at 660.
Chillicothe Unioto was 11th with a 771 total and Williamsport Westfall 12th at 775.
