Dennis Murphy Sr.

June 4, 1945 — Oct. 27, 2018

Dennis E. Murphy Sr., 73, of Ironton, went home to his Savior on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, after a long illness with his family by his bedside. The Ironton native was born June 4, 1945, a son of the late Theodore and Nora Easterlong Murphy. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Norma Greene Murphy, whom he married on April 21, 1965.
Dennis attended Ironton City Schools and was a loyal employee for the City of Ironton, retiring in 1990, after 28 years of service. Dennis was saved and baptized in July of 1972, at the City Mission Church in Ironton, where he served his young Christian life, being a Sunday school superintendent, board member and bus driver. Later in life, he attended the First Church of the Nazarene, where he found love of many friends. He was a member of the Ohio National Guard during the Vietnam era.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, May and William Buck.
In addition to his wife, Norma, their love produced two wonderful children, Angela Scott and DJ. With his wife, Rhonda Murphy, they produced four grandchildren, Benjamin, Joshuae, Alicia Murphy and Jessica Scott. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Collin and Mason Murphy, with another great-grandchild on the way. He was one of six siblings, Virginia Reed, Ted Murphy, Janet James, Reba (Jim) Houston and Frank (Christy) Murphy, who all survive. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Lee (Linda) Greene; and sister-in-law, Mary Mowery.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene, Ironton, with pastor Rob Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. Therese Boykin

Aug. 22, 1960 — Oct. 25, 2018

Therese Annette Boykin, 58, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 25, 2018, after an extended illness. Therese was born Aug. 22, 1960, to the late William and Eva Kata Rollins Boykin.
She was a graduate of Ironton High School, Class of 1978, a member of the Ironton Homemakers Club, was of the Catholic faith and worked as a youth care provider in Lexington, Kentucky for more than 20 years, in addition to working at Lawrence County General Hospital. Therese loved painting, puzzles, crafts and spending time with a special great-nephew, Gabriel Harper.
She is survived by two sisters, Sandra Garnett and Bernice Michelle (Kevin) Kenley, both of Columbus; and two brothers, with whom she resided with, William “Billy” Boykin and David “D.J.” Boykin, both of Ironton.
She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as a special friend and caregiver, Callie Edwards. She is sadly missed by all who loved her, and may she rest in peace.

Delbert Goad

June 29, 1940 — Oct. 26, 2018

Delbert Donald Goad, 78, of Pedro, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, at his residence. He was born June 29, 1940, to the late Delbert and Lizetta Brown Goad.
Delbert graduated from South High School, Springfield. After high school, he joined the United States Army and served his country in the Vietnam War. His life was centered around his family, whom he loved to spend time with. Delbert enjoyed outdoor activities, and especially horseback riding and camping.
He is survived by two sons, Christopher Goad, of Pedro, and Delbert D. Goad Jr., of Ashland, Kentucky; two daughters, Dawn Hileman, of Pedro, and Tammy Boggs, of Flatwoods, Kentucky; a sister, Sarah Koster, of Pedro; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Bro. Don Friend officiating. Military rites will follow by VFW Post 8850, Ironton.
