Who says 13 is unlucky?
The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers bombed in 13 3-point goals as the routed the previously unbeaten Gallipolis Blue Angels 69-33 on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Haylee — or Haythree — Stevens was the main B-52 pilot as she knocked down six triples and score 20 points. Riley Schreck drained three trifectas and scored 13 points while Jada Rogers scored 10 points on the strength of a pair of 3-point goals.
“We shot the ball really well, especially from the 3-point line,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham.
“But we played well in other areas of the game as well. It wasn’t just the 3-point shooting. We played good defense and contested their shots. They only had 13 points in the first half and scored in single digits in three of the four quarters.”
Gallipolis (3-1, 1-1) was led by Hunter Copley with 13 points and Maddy Petro with 12.
Ironton is now 2-1 overall and in the OVC. Graham wasn’t worried about a letdown after Monday’s big win over Fairland that was his 200th career victory — all at Ironton.
“A lot of support from my wife (Tiffany) and kids we well as a lot of good players at a place that values athletics and girls’ athletics,” said Graham who is now 201-91 in his 13th season.
“It’s not a big deal. You win because you have a lot of good players and I’ve had a lot of good coaches through the years.”
Elli Williams, Schreck and Stevens all had 3-pointers and Kameren Arden scored four points in the first quarter as Ironton jumped in front 17-8.
Petro scored four for the Blue Angels.
Schreck and Rogers hit a pair of 3-pointers each in the second quarter as Ironton stretched its lead to 31-13 at the break.
Stevens went to work in the third quarter with three more triples as she scored 11 points and Schreck added a pair of buckets to make it 50-24.
Stevens hit two more 3-pointers and Lydia Hannan added another bomb as Ironton outscored the Blue Angels 19-9 in the fourth quarter.
Ironton hosts Rock Hill on Monday.
