Panthers pull away from RH with late surge

PEDRO — The fourth quarter has been good to the Chesapeake Panthers so far this season.
Win or lose, the Panthers have had big offensive production in the fourth quarter. They did it again on Friday as they outscored the Rock Hill Redmen 22-8 en route to a 57-36 Ohio Valley Conference win.
Tylan Hutchison led the Panthers with 12 points including eight in the fourth quarter. Levi Blankenship had 11 points, Trent Dearth nine and Eli Archer eight before fouling out.
Rock Hill (3-2, 0-2) got another big game from Kadin France with 16 points, 13 rebounds and two assists. Garrett Miller chipped in seven points.
Logan Hankins had five rebounds for Rock Hill while Jake Blagg had three assists and two steals. Braden Stamper had three steals.
Chesapeake (3-2, 1-1) led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter as five different players scored. Logan Walsh hit a 3-pointer and Josh Cox scored all four of his points for the Panthers while France had four points to keep the Redmen close.
Walsh had another trey and the Panthers were 4-of-8 at the foul line in the second quarter as both teams scored 11 points to make it 24-21 at the half.
Stamper and Miller hit 3-pointers in the second quarter for the Redmen.
Then came the second half, particular the fourth quarter.
Blankenship scored four points as Chesapeake went up 35-28. France scored five of Rock Hill’s seven points in the quarter.
The Panthers went to work in the fourth quarter as Hutchison scored eight point, Nathan Cox hit a trifecta, and they converted 7-of-8 from the foul line. Trent Dearth score five points including 3-of-4 at the line.
Rock Hill was only 14-of-40 from the field for 35 percent including 3-of-11 from the 3-point line for 27 percent.
The Panthers’ ability to get to the basket produced a 13-for-21 shooting effort from the foul line while Rock Hill was 4-of-7.
Rock Hill plays at St. Joseph on Tuesday. Chesapeake played Wayne, W.Va. on Saturday with the jayvee game at 3 p.m. and the Panthers visit Southeastern on Tuesday.
