WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings came out of the starting gate with their engines running hard.
The Lady Vikings had a big first quarter and led to a big first half as they cruised past the winless Racine Southern Lady Tornadoes 59-35 on Saturday.
Symmes Valley (5-2) took a 21-11 first quarter lead as Jenna Malone scored nine points and Rachel Hayes hit a 3-pointer and scored eight points.
The Lady Vikings held Southern to only four points in the second quarter while seven different players scored and the lead was 35-15 at the half.
Hayes had four points and Kyle Deer hit a 3-pointer as each team scored nine points in the third quarter and it was 44-24. Kayla Evans had six points for Southern in the quarter.
Spring Ross came off the bench to score six points and Deer hit another trifecta in the fourth quarter as the Lady Vikings added to their lead. Evans hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points.
Hayes scored 14 points, Malone 13, Deer nine and Hailee Littlejohn eight to lead a balanced Symmes Valley offense.
Taylor Sells and Emily Johnson cleaned the glass with 10 rebounds each as the Lady Vikings held a 43-25 advantage. Kaylee Cade and Malone had four assists each.
Evans scored 19 and Phoenix Cleland 10 for Southern (0-7).
Symmes Valley visits Green on Monday.
