The game was moved up a day, then it was moved up to an earlier starting time. Evidently, someone forgot to move the offense up, too.
In a low-scoring affair, the Athens Lady Bulldogs beat the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 37-30 on Friday in a non-league game.
Athens (4-7) led 7-4 after the first quarter as Harper Bennett hit a 3-pointer. Riley Schreck and Abigail Patterson each had a basket for Ironton’s total.
Schreck and Lydia Hannan both had buckets in the second quarter while Laura Manderick hit a 3-pointer and Lilly Mills and Kaylee Stewart had 2-point goals to give Athens a 14-8 halftime lead.
Jada Rogers scored all five of her points including a 3-pointer and Haylee Stevens had four points in the third quarter.
But Manderick scored 10 points including a pair of 3-pointers as the Lady Bulldogs led 28-21.
Each team scored nine points in the fourth. Kesi Federspiel hit a 3-pointer and Emma Harter was 4-of-4 at the foul line for Athens while Stevens scored six points and Schreck hit a trifecta for the Lady Fighting Tigers.
Stevens had 10 points, Schreck seven points and Rogers five to lead the Lady Fighting Tigers (4-5) who were again without starting center Samantha LaFon due to an injury.
Last season’s leading scorer and rebounder Lexie Arden was lost for the season due to an ACL injury suffered during the summer.
The Lady Bulldogs’ Manderick had 15 points to lead all scorers with Federspiel adding five points.
Ironton visits South Point next Thursday.
