GALLIPOLIS — There have been some games when the Fairland Lady Dragons struggled at Gallipolis.
This wasn’t one of them.
The Lady Dragons built a 26-point halftime lead and cruised to a 70-28 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Gallipolis Blue Angels on Thursday.
Fairland (7-2, 3-1) was led by Harley Lyons with 18 points on six 3-pointers. Kelsie Warnock had 13 points, six rebounds and three steals while Allie Marshall added 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Brooklyn Hill and Maddy Petro scored nine points each for Gallipolis.
Baskets by Jessica King and Marshall over the final 1:32 of the first quarter gave Fairland a 21-8 lead.
The Lady Dragons duplicated the numbers in the second quarter by again outscoring Gallipolis 21-8 to lead 42-16 at intermission.
Two free throws by the Blue Angels Junon Ohmura cut the spread to 21-13 with 5:51 left in the half, but Marshall, Warnock, Jenna Stone and three more points by Warnock built a 30-13lead with 4:12 on the clock.
Lyons hit a pair of 3-pointers and Brittany Thompson added a basket for a 38-15 lead. Emma Marshall’s putback with 30 seconds left in the half made it 42-16.
Lyons 3-pointer at the 3:23 mark of the third quarter had the lead at 52-16. Gallipolis finally scored on a basket by Petro with 52 seconds on the clock.
Fairland’s biggest lead was 70-23 with 2:02 to play on a basket by Miaa Howard.
On Monday, Fairland is at Chesapeake and Gallipolis at Portsmouth.
