Burl Holbrook

March 2, 1922 — Jan. 3, 2019

Burl Holbrook, 96, of Ironton, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Thursday morning, Jan. 3, 2019. Burl was born March 2, 1922, in Elliot County, Kentucky, to the late Walter and Della Barker Holbrook.
Burl was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Sally Jean Webb Holbrook; six brothers, Carl, Clyde, Harold, John, Wayne and Donald Holbrook; one sister, Dorothy Nance; and two sons-in-law, Carl Lemaster and Alan Unrue.
Burl will be greatly missed by a host of family and friends. He is survived by one sister, Wanda Payne, of Proctorville; three daughters, Patricia Lemaster, Bernice Unrue and Brenda (Carl) Branham, all of Ironton; two sons, James (Phyllis) Holbrook, of Grayson, Kentucky, and Burl “Buddy” Holbrook, of Ironton; 11 grandchildren, Mark Lemaster, James (Lori) Holbrook, Robert (Julie) Holbrook, Adam (Becky) Unrue, Matthew (Mary) Unrue, Chris (Christi) Holbrook, April (Jeremy) Justice, Elizabeth (Travis) Blair, Sandy (Michael) Newell, Vicky (Jason) Humphrey and Stephen (Rachel) Branham; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
Burl was a member of Westwood United Baptist Church in Westwood, Kentucky. Burl worked at Alpha Portland Cement Plant and retired from A.C. Lawrence Leather in 1987. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice care workers of Ashland and a special thanks to his great-grandson, Joey Unrue, who helped take care of him.
Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday at Old Oak Springs United Baptist Church, Ashland, Kentucky. Burial will follow in Holbrook Family Cemetery, Ironton. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the church. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements. Robert Ackison

July 9, 1959 — Jan. 3, 2019

Robert “Bill Bob” Ackison, 59, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at his residence. Bill Bob was born July 9, 1959, in Ironton, a son to the late Robert L. and Sabra (Rose) Ackison.
Bill Bob was a graduate of Ironton High School and was a retired yard conductor from CSX Railway. He loved spending time with his son, family and friends. He also enjoyed collecting trains with his son and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, John Moritz; and a niece, Lynn Hopper.
He is survived by a son, Chandler Ackison, of Cross Lanes, West Virginia; three sisters, Rosetta Moritz, Virginia Miller and Cheryl Ackison, all of Ironton; six nieces and nephews, Mary Linn, of Ironton, David Moritz and Mark Miller, both of Columbus, Bryan Miller, of Washington, Missouri, and Mary Beth Scherer and Cherlynn Roush, both of Ironton; and a host of friends and family who will miss him.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
