Culvert replacement to begin Monday

ATHALIA — Starting Jan. 14, parts of State Route 217 will have daytime closures for two weeks as crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Lawrence County Highway  Maintenance Facility replace several culverts.

Beginning Monday, Jan. 14 and continuing through Thursday, Jan. 17, State Route 217 will be closed during operational hours while crews replace a series of culverts situated at locations between State Route 218 and State Route 7 at Athalia.

Then, the following week, crews will continue efforts to replace an additional three culverts between State Route 218 and State Route 7, and the route will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 22-24.

Operations will be in effect from approximately 8 a.m.-4 p.m. each day, with the route open to evening, overnight and weekend travel. During periods of closure, motorists will be detoured by way of State Route 218, State Route 553 and State Route 7 in Gallia County.
