On Monday, students from Rock Hill Middle School bested rivals from across the county’s Quiz Bowl tournament.

Showing their mastery of subjects ranging from history, science, math to the arts, the team came from behind after an early defeat in the double elimination event to take the top prize.

The Quiz Bowl tournaments are organized by the Lawrence County ESC and events take place at both the high and middle school levels. Other events the ESC puts together for the year include the Lawrence County Spelling Bee, the Model UN and the county science fair.

Lawrence County has a wealth of bright students, whose gifts will make them future leaders.

We at The Tribune are always glad to highlight and shine a spotlight on the achievements of our county’s students, whether it is athletic feats on the field, or outstanding academic work. And we are thankful the ESC provides these outlets for academics.

We commend Rock Hill’s team, comprised of Jared Raynard, Andrew Medinger, Sophie Mootz, Griffin Fuller, Sam Simpson, Victor Day, Megan Wroblewski, Justin McKee and Brady Cremeans, and their coach, Trena Hayes, for a job well done.
