Making the extra effort

This school year, students at Dawson-Bryant Elementary have been receiving literacy and math tutoring via the school’s afterschool and morning programs.
The program, paid for by a 21st Century After School grant and administered by the Gallia-Vinton ESC, also offers students a chance to take part in arts, science, fitness and other activities.
And those enrolled in the program’s drama class will get a chance to perform a musical for fellow students and parents.
It all comes free of cost and the school also provides a snack and bus transportation for students.
Principal Angie LaFon said the program has been extremely popular and the school has a waiting list for those wanting to sign up.
Programs like these help to boost students who may be at-risk academically and we are happy to hear that students are getting extra help and effort through these classes.
We commend the school district and all involved who bring this to the students and hope more districts in Lawrence County are offering or considering the same.
