WESTWOOD, Ky. — Moral victories still aren’t victories. But St. Joseph Lady Flyers’ coach Bart Burcham will gladly take the effort.
St. Joseph didn’t shoot free throws well and fell behind by 10 points in the second half but still managed to get back in position to win the game before losing 41-37 to the Fairview Lady Eagles on Saturday.
“The girls showed so much composure but just came up a little short. It’s frustrating because you want to win every game, but they keep improving and a lot of good things are coming for these girls. I was so proud of their effort today,” said Burcham.
The Lady Flyers — wo lost 58-30 early in the year to Fairview — were only 12-of-28 from the foul line.
“We missed 16 free throws and that hurt, but we still had our chances,” said Burcham.
Emma Whaley scored five points and Kaitlyn Sheridan hit a trifecta as St. Joseph took a 12-6 first quarter lead.
St. Joseph scored only two points in the second quarter but still trailed just 18-14 at intermission.
