Carol Bruce

Sept. 25, 1953 — Jan. 29, 2019

Carol Ellen (Burke) Bruce, 65, wife of David L. Bruce, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Carol was born Sept. 25, 1953, to Charles S. and Margaret Koester Burke, of Ashland, Kentucky.
Carol was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ashland. She served as treasurer of St. Paul’s as well as its Christ’s Kids Preschool. Carol and David were married Jan. 20, 1973, at St. Paul’s.
Carol is survived by her husband, David; a brother, Charles S. Burke Jr., of Lexington, Kentucky; an aunt, Nancy Koester, of Detroit, Michigan; and a nephew, Joseph Maffia, of New York City.
Among the things Carol loved best were volunteering at St. Paul’s, gardening, travel and genealogy. She was also a volunteer photographer for FindAGrave.com.
Carol graduated from Boyd County High School with the Class of 1971, where she was salutatorian. She also earned an associate’s degree in accounting from the University of Kentucky and a bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Morehead State University. Carol was retired from Ashland Inc. (Ashland Oil), where she was a payroll supervisor and a tax specialist. She also served on the supervisory committee of the Ashland Credit Union.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ashland, Kentucky. It will be followed by a short graveside service and interment in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Visitation will be 6-8:30 p.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1320 Bath Ave., Ashland, KY 41101. Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Deborah Osborn

July 30, 1950 — Jan. 29, 2019

Deborah “Debbie” Gay Osborn, 68, of Coal Grove, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at her residence. The Worthington, Kentucky native was born July 30, 1950, a daughter of the late Edwin V. Hurt and Nora Alice Ward Hurt Castle.
Debbie received her associate degree from Ohio University Southern and a clerical degree from Ashland Community College. She was a former employee with Detox Therapy at Pathways in Ashland, Kentucky, and attended the Coal Grove Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Ray Hurt II.
She is survived by two sons, Roy G. II (Brandy) Osborn and Robert E. Osborn, both of Indiana; three sisters, Doris A. Ashley, of Michigan, Edwina Davis, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, and Paula Sawyers; five grandchildren, Amanda Maria Avilla, Courtney Renee Verone, Dustin Osborn, Hannah Emmabell Osborn and Zachary Ryan Osborn; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be noon Saturday at the Coal Grove Church of the Nazarene with pastor Brian Taylor officiating. Terry Minard

Terry Minard, 62, of Ironton, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, Marsha Lavender Minard.
