Lady Vikings go cold in loss to Lady Eagles

WESTWOOD, Ky. — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings got a good look at the basket, but the basket won the staring contest.
The Lady Vikings were just 19-of-65 from the field for 29 percent in a 61-47 loss to the Fairview Lady Eagles on Saturday.
“We could not score and we never took a bad shot,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Alvin Carpenter.
Leading scorer Rachael Hayes was saddled with early foul trouble and point guard Kylie Deer played on a bad ankle.
“(Jenna) Malone took over on offense and Payton Hunter played great defense and picked up the slack of hot having Hayes or Deer,” said Carpenter.
Malone finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Vikings (11-8). Hayes added nine points, Emily Johnson had eight rebounds and Taylor Sells had seven rebounds. Deer had five assists.
Fairview (10-14) had four players in double figures led by Jordan Rakes with 16. Josie Nelson scored 14, Gracie Crisp 13 and Taylor Hamilton got 11.
Fairview was up 12-10 after the first quarter as Hamilton scored six points and Crisp and Rakes each made 3-pointers. Hayes and Kaylee Cade hit 3-pointers for the Lady Vikings.
The lead went to 27-18 at the half as Crisp, Nelson and Rakes combined for 13 points. Malone had six of the Lady Vikings’ six points.
Rakes was 5-of-6 at the line and scored seven points while Nelson had six points to give the Lady Eagles a 44-29 lead after three quarters.
Malone scored seven points for the Lady Vikings.
Hayes hit a 3-pointer and scored six points, Malone got seven points as the Lady Vikings tried to rally.
But Crisp scored five points while Meeks and Nelson got four each as the Lady Eagles ended any comeback hopes.
Symmes Valley hosts Green on Monday and Eastern on Thursday.
