If the lyrics were about turning the basketball over, it would have made perfect theme music for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers in a turnover-filled 57-31 loss to the Franklin Lady Wildcats in the Tackett’s Body Shop Shootout.
Ranked 15th in the latest Associated Press Division II poll, the Lady Wildcats took advantage of 12 turnovers by Ironton in the first half including six consecutive possessions as they went on a 28-5 run to build a 30-12 lead at the half.
Franklin (17-3) led just 11-7 after the first quarter as Akron recruit Layne Ferrell scored six points, but the Lady Wildcats outscored Ironton 19-5 in the second quarter as six different players scored.
Brooke Stover had six points as Franklin extended its lead to 47-24 in the third quarter. Lydia Hannan scored four points for Ironton.
Haylee Stevens hit a trifecta and Samantha LaFon scored four points in the fourth quarter to account for Ironton’s total.
LaFon had 12 points, Hannan seven and Stevens six to lead Ironton (9-11).
Ferrell got 12 points and Stover 11 as 10 different players scored for Franklin.
Ironton visits Coal Grove on Monday and hosts Lucasville Valley on Thursday.
