Murder case bound over to grand jury

Adkins still jailed on $1 million bond

A woman accused of murder has been bound over to a Lawrence County grand jury.

Belinda S. Adkins, 41, of South Point, is accused of shooting Joshua C. Jones multiple times around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 in the parking lot of the McDonald’s in South Point. Jones later died at a hospital of his injuries.

During a hearing on Monday morning, Lawrence County Municipal Court Judge Donald Capper heard evidence from Lawrence County Sheriff’s detective Jason Newman regarding the case.

“Detective Newman testified as to the evidence they have gathered and so forth,” Capper said. “I found there was clearly probable cause to hold Ms. Adkins and for the grand jury to consider an indictment.”

Adkins, 41, did not testify during the hearing. She is still being held in the Lawrence County Jail  on a $1 million cash or surety bond.

The Lawrence County grand jury meets next on Monday, Feb. 25 and Tuesday, Feb. 26.
