PROCTORVILLE — It wasn’t so much of a scare as it was a wake-up call.
Needing a win to earn a share of the Ohio Valley Conference basketball title, the Fairland Lady Dragons looked up at the first quarter scoreboard and saw themselves trailing 13-12.
Rileigh Morris had scored five points and Makayla Scott three more as Rock Hill took the early lead and hinted at a possible major upset.
But Allie Marshall scored six points, Emma Marshall four points and Jenna Stone made a 3-pointer and two foul shots as the Lady Dragons stormed back to take 30-18 halftime lead en route to a 62-27 win and a share of the league crown.
The league title is the third straight for the Lady Dragons.
Fairland (17-3, 12-2) extended the lead to 51-23 as the defense held Rock Hill to just five points in the third quarter while Kelsie Warnock hit a 3-pointer and scored seven points and Stone got six more.
Miaa Howard had five points and Stone four more in the fourth quarter as Fairland outscored the Redwomen 11-4.
Stone scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Lady Dragons while Allie Marshall scored 13 and Warnock nine.
Morris had nine points and Savannah McGraw six to lead Rock Hill (5-16, 0-14).
Fairland hosts Lynchburg Clay at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Dragons were originally scheduled to play at Minford.
Rock Hill plays Coal Grove at 6:45 p.m. Monday in the sectional tournament at Jackson.
