WILLOW WOOD — Forget Godzilla. There was another monster loose on Saturday.
Symmes Valley’s 6-foot-4 junior Jack Leith put together a monster game with 18 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and seven blocked shots as the Vikings routed the Sciotoville East Tartans 83-55 in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
Luke Leith had 17 points and eight rebounds while Drew Scherer and Josh Ferguson scored 15 points each for the Vikings (7-13, 6-6).
Will Shope scored a game-high 31 points to lead East.
The Vikings wasted little time as they took a 17-5 lead in the first quarter as Scherer and Jack Leith combined for 10 points and Trent Turner hit a 3-pointer.
“The guys did a really good job playing team defense in the first quarter. I thought that really set the tone for the game,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Coffman. “We got some great minutes from our bench and we really moved the ball well on offense.”
Luke Leith scored 10 points, Jack Leith five points and Scherer hit a 3-pointer as the lead went to 41-21 at the half.
Shope scored eight points and Sean Hollon hit a 3-pointer and scored five points for East.
Symmes Valley extended the lead to 65-36 after three quarters. Ferguson hit a trey and scored nine points and Jack Leith scored eight while Alec Carpenter hit a trifecta.
Shope had nine more points for East.
The Vikings converted 5-of-7 free throws in the fourth quarter as seven different players scored.
Shope scored 13 of the Tartans’ 19 points in the quarter.
“This group had a great deal of adversity early in the season. I’m proud of their hard work and toughness. We called these last six games our fourth quarter of the season. I’m proud of them for winning five of six,” said Coffman.
“Now we have two great teams coming in this week to get us ready for the tournament.”
The Vikings host Beaver Eastern on Tuesday.
