Delores Whitley

April 1, 1926 — Feb. 22, 2019

Delores “Dutch” Davidson Whitley, 92, of South Point, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019. She was born April 1, 1926, in Ashland, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Myrtle Nease Davidson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Cecil R. Whitley; three sisters, Maxine Sloan, Eileen Sutton and Kathleen Sheppard; a brother, James Davidson; and a son-in-law, Ray Sloan.
Dutch attended the Sunrise Church of the Nazarene since she was seven years old and was a longtime resident of South Point.
Survivors include her daughter, Delores “Pug” Sloan, of Ironton; a sister, Elizabeth Austin, of South Point; two brothers, Robert Lee Davidson Jr. and Ronald (Katie) Davidson, both of South Point; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Davidson, of South Point; two grandsons, Joe (Julie) Sloan, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Matt (Kelli) Sloan, of South Point; six great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with the Rev. Gary Henry officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from noon-1 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunrise Church of the Nazarene. Christi Henderson

Christi Ann Henderson, 55, of Ironton, passed away, Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky, surrounded by family.
She was born to parents, Dan and Sue Newman, on Feb. 20, 1964, in Portsmouth. Chris began teaching at Rock Hill High School in 1995 and retired there in January 2019 with 23 years of service.
In addition to her family and friends, she loved to teach and loved her students. She married Tom Henderson in 2011.
Chris is survived by parents, Dan and Sue Newman; brother, Tony Newman; and wife, Valerie; husband, Tom Henderson; two sons, Joseph Craft, and wife, Rachel, Caleb Craft and wife, Rebecca; and two step-daughters, Jackie and Sabrina Henderson. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Caleb, Lilianne, and Emmett.
She joins her late husband, Rev. William Craft, who passed in 1998.
A viewing ceremony will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb 28 at St. Mary’s of Pine Grove Catholic Church.
Family and friends are encouraged to attend the viewing and/or funeral. The burial will take place proceeding the funeral at Koenig Cemetery in Scioto County.
Instead of flowers, Chris requested that backpacks, filled with school supplies, be donated to Rock Hill Schools. Donations may also be made to the “Backpack Buddies” program for Rock Hill Schools. Backpacks and donations may be received at the funeral home during visiting hours.

 

Joshua Melvin

Joshua Melvin, 29, of Wurtland, Kentucky, passed away Feb. 21, 2019, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was the husband of Jessica Patrick Melvin. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at at O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Melvin Cemetery.
