Carla Harper
Aug. 13, 1957 — Feb. 24, 2019
Carla Jean Harper, 61, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at her residence. The Lawrence County native was born Aug. 13, 1957, a daughter of the late Charles Fredrick Sr. and Doris Ruth Kellogg Harper.
Carla was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and a homemaker. She was a member of the Family Life Worship Center in Ironton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jane Blankenship and Rosealie Mulkey; a brother, Charles “Pete” Harper Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Chaucey Harper.
She is survived by three sisters, Rita F. Harper and Donna K Bledsoe, both of Ironton, and Vivian (Jerry) Brooks, of Coal Grove; and two brothers, John (Sandy) Harper, of Ashland, Kentucky, and Roy Harper, of Ironton.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Todd Munson officiating. Burial will follow in Hecla Cemetery and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service today at the funeral home. Sylvia Morgan
Feb. 18, 1923 — Feb. 26, 2019
Sylvia Marie Morgan, 97, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, at Harbor Health Care. The Lawrence County native was born Feb. 18, 1923, a daughter of the late Albert E. and Amelia Layne Morgan.
Sylvia was valedictorian for Decatur High School, Class of 1942. She was a former laborer of Henrites and also worked for the N.Y.A. Center in Ironton. She was a member of the Hanging Rock Church of the Nazarene and also attended Elm Street Church of the Nazarene in Ironton. She loved her family, but more importantly, loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle and Irene Morgan; and a brother, Ewell Emerson Morgan.
She is survived by a brother, Gerald (A. Kay) L. Morgan; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Gary Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. There will be a joint memorial service for John Oliver Black and Elizabeth (Betsy) Moriarity Gates Black on Saturday, March 2, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, 905 S 5th St, Ironton.

Grovetta Gracie Roberts, 101, of Dunbar, West Virginia, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at Dunbar Center Nursing Home, Dunbar, West Virginia.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home, Chesapeake, with Bishop Norman Jones officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
