Staff at The Tribune have qualified as finalists in the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors’ 2018 newspaper contest for six awards.
The Tribune community editor and reporter Heath Harrison was a finalist for Best Editorial Writer, while creative director Kandi Thompson was a finalist for Best Graphics Artist, Best Informational Graphic and Best Full Page Design.
Harrison and reporter Mark Shaffer were finalists for Best Enterprise Reporting for The Tribune’s series on the opioid epidemic, while former photographer Jessica St. James was a finalist for Best News Photo.
The awards in actual order of finish — first, second and third places — will be announced at the Ohio APME annual awards banquet on May 4 in Columbus. Fifty-five daily newspapers submitted 1,776 entries in the contest, which featured news and sports stories, features, editorials, columns, graphics and photos from 2018.
