CHESAPEAKE — The village of Chesapeake has a new street supervisor.

The village council approved the hiring of Earl Hamlin for the position at last Monday’s meeting, council member Danny Burd told The Tribune on Friday.

The position had been vacant since the previous supervisor took another job a few months ago.

In other business at the meeting, the council confirmed Joey McMaster as the new fire chief.

He had been serving in the interim since the previous chief, Frank Meehling II, resigned, Burd said.

The council also approved the purchase of a breathalyzer for the police department and approved ordinances that bring village law into agreement with Ohio code.

“This is something we do each year,” Burd said.

The council also heard from former council member Paul Hart, who urged residents to contact legislative leaders to oppose the proposed gas tax at the state level.

The next meeting of Chesapeake council is set for 7 p.m. on Monday, April 1.
