Juanita Mays

Juanita “Rosie” Wilson Mays, 30, of South Point, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Earl James Cron; paternal grandfather, Carl Edward Wilson; and maternal grandmother, Juanita Stapleton.
She is survived by her husband, Christopher Mays; one daughter, Kayleigh Dawn Wilson; one son, George Albert Wilson III; her parents, George and Edith Wilson; paternal grandmother, Wada Loraine Wilson; maternal grandfather, William Stapleton; and one brother, George Albert Wilson Jr.
Funeral services will be noon Thursday at Community Tabernacle Church, Coal Grove, by pastor Mark Adkins. Burial will follow at McKenzie Cemetery in Ironton. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-noon prior to the service at the church. Schneider-Hall Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is assisting the family with arrangements. Betty Lou Brown

Betty Lou (Miller) Brown, 70, of Waterloo, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019, at her residence. The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 4, 1948, the daughter of the late James and Artie Yates Miller. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Ireland Donley.
Betty was a graduate of Symmes Valley High School and a former data processor for Fulfillment of America in Marion, where she retired in 1985 after 20-plus years of service. She loved crossword puzzles, handheld games and visiting with family and friends. She also loved all her grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. She was of the Christian faith.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Everett Donley; three grandchildren, Lil Richie, Kayla Dawn and Andy Shane; and countless other loved ones.
She is survived by a son, Curtis Donley, of Mansfield; a daughter, Lori Cole, of Waterloo; spouse, Jerry Brown, of Waterloo; two sisters, Linda Adkins, of Greencamp, and Alice Holbrook, of Texas; two brothers, Roger Miller, of Pedro, and Craig Miller, of Mansfield; two cousins, Buster Yates, of Ironton, and Marrin Miller, of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and countless others.

Dorothy Henson

June 11, 1936 — March 9, 2019

Dorothy Mae Henson, 82, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Kentucky. The Greenup, Kentucky native was born June 11, 1936, the daughter of the late James and Nancy Jenkins Watkins. She is survived by her husband, Leslie Henson, whom she married on July 8, 2002, in Catlettsburg, Kentucky.
Dorothy loved being outside in her flower garden, running her farm equipment and tending to her cattle. She also enjoyed spending time with the people she loved. She was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sons, Robert Lee Ison, James (Alvin) Ison, Paul (Steve) Ison and Gerald (Jerry) Ison.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, April Ison, of South Point, Lisa (Ronnie) Abrams, of Pedro, Brenda Mooe, of Ironton, and Ann Spurlock, of Flatwoods, Kentucky; two sons, Kenneth Ison and David Ison, both of Ironton; second mother to, Mikkael (Brittany) Ison, Randy (Brittany) Ison and Meghan Ison; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Elder Glenn Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. David Miller

July 20, 1959 — March 7, 2019

David Brian Miller, 59, of Warsaw, Indiana, formerly of Ironton, died Thursday, March 7, 2019, after an extended illness. He was born July 20, 1959, to the late Ben and Jerry (Cornell) Miller.
He was also preceded in death by a son, David Brian Miller Jr.; and two sisters, Debra Matney and Cathy Jenkins, of Ironton.
He is survived by a daughter, Jessica (Miller) Davis; two grandchildren, Lola and Montgomery Miller, all of Ironton; two brothers, Jerry and Allen Miller; a sister-in-law, Debbie Miller, all of Warsaw, Indiana; and a host of nieces and nephews.
David attended Rock Hill High School.
Titus Funeral Home in Warsaw, Indiana, is in charge of arrangements, but there will be no service at this time.

 

Beatrice Willis

Feb. 11, 1934 — March 10, 2019

Beatrice Imogene “Jean” Young Willis, 85, of Ironton, died Sunday, March 10, 2019. She was born Feb. 11, 1934, in Vinton County, a daughter of the late Smith J. Young and Kathryn L. Newman Young.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Willis; a son, Richard “Rick” Brown; four brothers, Joe Young, Dave Young, Omar Young and Ivan Young; and a sister, Eula McFarland.
Beatrice was a product finisher with Warren-Teed Pharmaceuticals and also worked at Huntington National Bank in Columbus for 10 years.
Survivors include her children, Ronald “Ron” Brown and Debra Southers; her stepchildren, Chuck Willis, Edward Louis Willis Jr., James Willis, Jonathan Willis and Donald Willis; three sisters, Vivian Newman, Lorraine Rathburn and Judith Dean; three brothers, Don Young, Sonny Young and Phil Young; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Zoar Baptist Church, Coal Grove, with pastor Jim Beals officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, is assisting the family with arrangements. William Kinney Jr.

May 10, 1931 — March 11, 2019

William J. Kinney Jr., 87, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019, at Community Hospice of Ashland, Kentucky. He was born May 10, 1931, to the late William J. Kinney Sr. and Audra Swentzel Kinney.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Church of Ironton, a life member of The Knights of Columbus and the Elks, and also a member of the Moose Lodge and VFW 8850. He was a retired CSX clerk.
He is survived by brother, Mike and Bernadette Kinney; nieces, Regina (Steve) Massie and Mary (Dave) Legenza; nephew, Mike Andrew (Kelli) Kinney; and a special friend, Joy Corn.
Christian Burial Mass will be noon Thursday at St. Lawrence Church, with Fr. David Huffman officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Pine Grove. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in William’s name to the Parish Life Center of Hospice. O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home, Ironton, assisted the family with arrangements.

 

Colleen Coleman

Jan. 19, 1947 — Feb. 2, 2019

Colleen Coleman, 72, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. She was born Jan. 19, 1947, in Ironton to the late Grover Hall and Rosalie Hankins Sites.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary “Cookie” Colley; and three brothers, Gary “Mic” Sites, Larry Lee Sites and Thomas “Tommy” Sites.
She was a 50-year member of Central Christian Church, Ironton.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Coleman; three daughters, Brenda (Duane) Hofstetter, of Denton, North Carolina, Kelli Coleman, of Ironton, and Kayla (Matthew) Delong, of Ironton; two sons, Pat (Penny) Coleman, of Ironton, and Kerry (Christine) Coleman, of Ironton; one sister, Dee Stephenson, of Ironton; grandchildren, Lily Delong, Matthew Hofstetter, Jonathan Hofstetter, Christopher Hofstetter, Stephen (Kenny) Hofstetter, Alan (Ashley) Hofstetter and Nicholas (Mamie) Hofstetter; great-grandchildren, Addison Linthicum and Alexis and Mia Hofstetter; and several nieces and nephews.

Amanda Lee Jordan Hafner, 28, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.

John Miller

There will be a memorial service for John Edward Miller, 70, of Ironton, who died in February 2019. Service is set for noon on Friday at First Baptist Church of Ironton. Phillips Funeral Home handled arrangements last month.

Shirley A. Richards, 81, of Willow Wood, died Monday, March 11, 2019, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.
