HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Marshall University men’s basketball program has accepted an invitation to participate in the CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament – commonly referred to as the CIT – on Tuesday at the Cam Henderson Center.
Tickets for the first round game — the Jim Phelan Classic — are currently on sale to season ticket holders. Season ticket holders will have the ability to access their ticket account online at HerdZone.com and reserve their same season ticket locations for the first round.
Season ticket holders will have 24-hour period after each round Marshall advances to secure tickets before they go on sale to the general public.
Online orders will be available through HerdZone.com two hours after the conclusion of each round. Season ticket holders will have until Monday, March 18 at noon to secure tickets. Unsecured season tickets will go on sale Monday at 2 p.m.
Tickets for the event are $25 for lower level chairback, $20 for lower level bleacher, $15 for upper chairback and $10 for general admission.
Customers are encouraged to use the mobile or print-at-home deliver option for ticket distribution. There will be a will call option for an additional $5 charge.
Those who select the will call option can pick up their tickets starting Monday at noon at the Henderson Center box office.
General admission tickets are on sale now. The Ticket office will have extended hours today (Friday) until 5 p.m., and will be open Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for those who wish to call in and purchase tickets.
The first 200 student tickets will be complimentary to any Marshall student with a valid ID. Students can start picking up their tickets on Monday at 9 a.m. in the Henderson Center box office. All other student tickets are $5.
“The opportunity to play in the postseason will be good for our young guys and gives two of the most prolific scorers in Marshall history a chance to add to their totals,” Marshall coach Dan D’Antoni said.
“We play a fun style of basketball and I know our fans will support this team and come watch us play. We look forward to seeing a nice crowd on Tuesday. Go Herd.”
Marshall is headed to the postseason for the second consecutive season. The Thundering Herd is making back-to-back postseason appearances after reaching the NCAA tournament Round of 32 a year ago.
Marshall’s quest to repeat as Conference USA champions ended Thursday night in the tournament quarterfinals with an 82-73 loss to Southern Miss.
The Herd is 19-14 overall and has won six out of its last seven games.
The CIT will give four seniors – Jon Elmore, C.J. Burks, Rondale Watson and Christian Thieneman – another appearance in front of home fans. Elmore, Burks and Watson spearheaded Marshall’s unprecedented run in 2017-18, which culminated with the program’s first C-USA championship, first NCAA tournament berth in 31 years and first NCAA tournament win.
Elmore, the only Division I men’s basketball player with 2,500 career points and 750 career assists, holds the C-USA career record for points and assists. He needs 20 points to break Skip Henderson’s school record for points.
