WILLOW WOOD — A member of Symmes Valley’s board of education has been honored for his length of service to the district.
Tommy Shepherd was recognized by the Ohio School Boards Association at their Southeast Region Spring Conference in Pikeville on March 19.
The Veteran School Board Member Award goes to those who have served 10, 15, and 20 years on their local boards.
“He’s been here 10 years, which predates me,” Superintendent Darrell Humphrey said of Shepherd. “The one thing I’ll say about Tommy is he definitely does his homework on issues and always casts an informed vote as a board member.”
Shepherd has worked for Ohio Valley Bank in Gallipolis for 35 years and serves as its senior vice president. He is a Symmes Valley graduate, as are his two children, while his wife, Kris, is a bus driver for the district.
“The Shepherds are definitely a Symmes Valley family,” Humphrey said. “And he’s very good to work with.”
